Eviction – by the rules
by David Carter on 15 December 2010
Last week The Sheriffs Office was instructed to evict a group of travellers illegally camping on land in Hounslow, Middlesex, so that the sale of the land by our client to a Sikh Temple could be completed that day.
One young man, sipping extra strong lager and standing in front of a huge pile of empty beer cans said “We have strict rules here and are a peaceful community”. When asked why the site rules clearly said no drink or drugs he replied “Cos it just causes trouble”.
We asked the police to attend in case of a breach of the peace, however most were peaceful and left without a fuss, although one man did have a claw hammer and had recently been arrested for threatening people with it. Our officers even helped the travellers carry their belongings off site!
